I have been doing some quick sketches, to see what kind of design I want to take into development for a logo. I found this way of printing out my café name, so I could sketch on and around it, quick and useful.
I decided that I liked this type of design (top left of image), it was quite bold and geometric, which will work at communicating the wood-work side of my café. I started to wonder if I could bring in some wood-work tools as sketches at this point.
After experimenting with the illustration of the wood-work tools, I have decided against using it. I thought it wasn’t very successful, it began to over complicate the design.
I think the most successful design is bottom right (above). It has a good balance to it, and because it’s centred it uses symmetry well. Unlike the image below which was my first tryout.
The hierarchy of text was supposed to create a stepping effect. However, when I put the text into the design, it was off balance. I decided to have the type centred because the symmetry worked best.
