Now I have established a route to take for my brand identity, I have been producing some brand applications. On previous projects I tend to create an aesthetic and a logo, and then project those aesthetics onto objects, producing quite a weak brand identity. Now that I have realised this, I want to really develop Once Upon’s identity, with the use of colour, messaging and scene. I have created a mockup of badges (that would be given to each person who purchases a ticket), and added some of my messaging that I have been working with. Using the quotes below, which I have edited two of to be more appropriate for my projects theme. What I think is successful with these mockups is the incorporation of Once Upon’s brand colours.
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies” ― George R.R. Martin
“to be, or not to be” — William Shakespeare
“Books are a uniquely portable magic” ― Stephen King
On past projects I usually just create a relevant object to project my logo onto, however what I am enjoying this time, and think is successful, is focusing much more on colour, messaging and scene. I think this is one of my most successful mock ups to date because I think the scene echoes my poster with a concentration of colour, projected onto a white setting/background.
Another mockup that I am currently working on is visitor lanyards. At the moment I think this is not very successful, I have slipped back to my old way of producing a mockup, just stick the logo on it and it’s done!, but I want to come away from that way of thinking, and really communicate the brand identity through the use of visitor passes, I will conduct further research before I continue with the designs.
